Komodo National Park rules and fees for boat guests, as they stand before 2027

Updated 3 November 2026

On 3 November 2026 a foreign visitor's park entrance ticket is IDR 250,000 per day under PP 36/2024. Visits are capped and booked online through SiOra, with a limit of 500 a day from September to December 2026. No 2027 quota or fee has been announced. We quote a park package per guest, separate from the boat price.

Where the rules stand on 3 November 2026

Three bodies touch a Komodo boat trip, and each has its own say. The park office, BTNK, decides who enters and when. The harbour authority at Labuan Bajo decides whether a boat may sail. The rangers run what happens on land.

We re-read the sources listed below on 3 November 2026. The newest rule change we found is the September notice that cut the daily limit to 500, reported on 29 September. The newest weather notice is dated 10 October. We found no announcement of a 2027 quota or a new fee. This is not legal advice, and every figure below names its outlet and date, so a reader in 2027 can judge its age.

In brief: you need a ticket for every day inside the park, it is booked online, and the number of tickets per day is limited. What is still open is the size of the 2027 limit and whether the fee changes. Both are answered below with dates, so that you know which line is a rule and which is a plan.

The entrance ticket, and our park package

ANTARA Kupang's report of 26 October 2024 explains that a new government regulation, number 36 of 2024, took over from the old tariff rules on 30 October 2024. A foreign visitor pays IDR 250,000 per person, the same on weekdays and holidays. For Indonesian visitors the weekday ticket is IDR 50,000; at weekends and on holidays it is IDR 75,000. Trekking, watching wildlife and snorkelling all fall under that one ticket. Scuba diving needs a second ticket, 25 thousand rupiah per person for each activity, while the boat tariffs stayed as they were.

We do not quote the government ticket alone. We quote a park package per guest by trip type, which bundles that ticket with ranger and local levies. On 3 November 2026 the package for a three-day, two-night trip is 650 thousand rupiah for a foreign guest and 350 thousand for an Indonesian guest. For 2D1N and 4D3N the figure reaches you in writing before payment. The package is ours, and it is never the government ticket.

The daily cap, the annual quota and SiOra

  • January to March 2026: a trial of the quota system. Floresa reported on 7 April 2026 that SiOra did not always stop bookings at the limit, and that payment problems, mainly with one bank, forced revisions.
  • 1 April 2026: a cap of 1,000 visits a day began. Metro TV wrote on 30 March that all visits go through the SiOra app, and that Padar runs in three sessions with room for about 300 people each.
  • 24 April 2026: the Ministry of Forestry said the yearly limit of 365,000 would be reviewed from time to time and could rise after Padar works, including a new in-and-out pier, as ANTARA reported on 25 April.
  • 22 September 2026: the acting BTNK head signed a notice for 500 visits a day from September to December, after the annual quota ran out in August, as CNN Indonesia reported on 29 September.

The yearly figure depends on the source. Floresa gives 366,108 from a study of 2018, and ANTARA's English service gives 378,870 from a study of 2022. The ministry works with 365,000. For 2027, no number exists yet. Visits in 2025 are given as 429,509 by ANTARA on 14 April 2026 and as 432,217 by Metro TV on 30 March 2026; ANTARA adds that 68 percent were international.

Sailing approvals, closures and unlicensed crossings

A sailing approval from the harbour authority comes before any park visit. detikBali reported on 6 August 2026 that approvals were limited to Rinca for 6 to 8 August, with Komodo and Padar closed, after BMKG forecast winds to 24 knots and waves to 2.4 metres. CNN Indonesia reported on 10 October 2026 a maritime notice for 10 and 11 October, with forecast wind at 17 to 22 knots and waves between 1.25 and 2.5 metres, and a list of ten high-risk points that includes the waters off Kelor and Selat Padar. The harbourmaster can hold an approval until conditions improve.

One more rule concerns where you go and with whom. detikBali reported on 3 February 2026 that the park office found 16 foreign tourists on Rinca with no entry tickets, in a zone not open to tourism, after a crossing sold through a messaging group while sailings were suspended. The case was under investigation. The lesson is general: a cheap crossing outside the licensed system can leave the guest, and not only the seller, in trouble.

Drones, diving and filming

The same ANTARA report lists a drone tariff of two million rupiah per unit per day. The park permit is a separate line on Gandiva, and neither the private charter nor the open trip includes the national park drone fee. The open trip does include documentation with camera, GoPro and drone, so a drone may fly for you, and the permit stays a cost to settle. Ask us before you bring your own, and follow the permit and the rangers' instructions.

Filming has its own tariff. ANTARA lists pre-wedding photo and video at three million rupiah for foreigners and one million for Indonesians. Whether an anniversary shoot counts as pre-wedding filming is a question for the park office, and we have no ruling to quote. Snorkelling falls inside the entrance ticket. Scuba diving needs its own ticket and dive insurance.

What this means for your dates

  • Fees: set aside the package for your trip type for every guest, on top of the boat price; the exact figure arrives in our written quote.
  • Quota: treat a peak date as short of tickets until the ticket exists. Send passport or ID details a week ahead so the tickets can be booked in each name.
  • 2027: no quota or fee has been announced. The ministry says it will review the limit, so we confirm the rule for your date.
  • Weather: keep a spare day at both ends. When an island is closed the route is reordered, and your hotel stays put.
  • Maintenance: Gandiva has no trips in January and February 2027.

Send your dates by WhatsApp and we reply with the package for your trip type and the status of the ticket quota for those days.

FAQ

What does the park charge foreign visitors per day?

ANTARA reported on 26 October 2024 that PP 36/2024 puts the government entrance ticket at IDR 250,000 for each foreign visitor and day. Our own quote is a package per guest and trip type, which adds ranger and local levies; the amount comes to you in writing before payment.

Is Komodo Island closed in 2027?

Nothing we read as of 3 November 2026 announces a closure of Komodo Island for 2027. What exists is a daily cap, a yearly ceiling that the ministry reviews from time to time, and weather closures decided by the harbour authority one notice at a time.

Is the park ticket included in the Gandiva price?

No. Neither the private charter nor the open trip includes park entrance fees, and both exclude the national park drone fee. The park is a separate line on every booking, quoted as a package per guest for your trip type, and the figure reaches you in writing before payment.

May I bring a drone into the park?

Not without a park permit. ANTARA lists the drone tariff at two million rupiah per unit per day under PP 36/2024. The fee is excluded from every Gandiva price. Ask us before you pack a drone, and follow the permit conditions and the rangers' instructions at all times.

Do I buy my own ticket on SiOra?

No. The ticket is part of the park package we arrange for your trip type. We need passport or ID details a week before sailing, because the booking is made by name and carries a date, and every name has to match the document you travel with.
