Two hotel nights that frame the sailing

Land the day before you board. One late or cancelled flight should cost you an evening, not the boat, and the guide to the arrival day gives the full reasoning. The evening before is the only time you can check the kit in a room with a table and a light.

Spend it on the packing list we send. Trekking shoes by the door, a small backpack packed, personal medicine, reef-safe sunscreen, a flash drive or a hard disk, and some emergency cash. Charge every battery, clear every memory card and put the phone on its last update before the signal gets thin.

Then do nothing. The best photographs of a trip are taken by people who slept. An early supper, a short walk and a window with the harbour lights are enough, and a hotel on the beach or in the hills lets you have that with a view.

Day two begins at Padar, with the tender leaving about 65 minutes before sunrise, so arrive rested.

Send us the flight number and we time the pickup. The harbour transfer from your hotel or from the airport is in the fare, and we confirm the pickup time in writing when you book. On a private charter the boarding time can be set around your flights.

Check in, take a shower and leave the bags packed by the door. Give the hotel your boarding time so that breakfast is ready, and ask for it to be early rather than late. Late checkout and early check-in belong to the hotel, and we ask on your behalf without promising either.

The last day works the other way. The boat returns to the harbour at a time we confirm in writing, and the captain sets it by weather and tide. Book flights home after 14:00 that day. If your flight leaves later in the week, or very late, a room near the pier gives you a shower and a bed before the airport.

If you are celebrating, tell the hotel too. A hotel's own surprise is the hotel's to arrange, and ours stay on the boat.

Send one message and the plan comes back in one reply. Name the date, the flight numbers in and out, the hotel you prefer or the area you want, and the number of guests. Add the cabin or the charter band, and say what the occasion is if you wish.

• Return: the flight home, booked after 14:00.
