One cabin or the whole hull: the choice, with sums
Updated 3 November 2026
Choosing a private charter or an open trip cabin in Komodo for two comes down to money and company. Two seats in Arjuna cost 2 x IDR 11,500,000 (≈ USD 706) with the guide included; the whole of Gandiva costs IDR 100,000,000 (≈ USD 6,135) with no other party aboard and no guide.
Arjuna or the hull: a two-column look
Either way, it is the same boat on the same three-day route from Labuan Bajo. They differ in who else is aboard, who owns the dates and what the fare carries. The table sets the two columns side by side, line against line.
On the open trip you hold one cabin, Arjuna if it is free, while other parties fill the remaining four. The boat sails on Monday & Friday. The fare is per person, two to a cabin, with the guide and the filming already in it.
On a private charter you have the lot: five cabins, three sundecks, the lounge and the deck table. You choose the start date, and the price is by party size, from IDR 100,000,000 (≈ USD 6,135) for one to four guests. The fare has no guide and no documentation; both are available on request, quoted separately.
The rest is identical. The route, the crew of six, the cruise director, the meals, the bathroom of your own and the hot water in the shower are the same on both. A seat is not a charter, and the charter timetable doesn't come at the seat price.
| Format | nights | From | Sunrise stop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Speedboat day trip (not us) | 0 | — | no |
| Open trip on Gandiva | 2 | IDR 9,000,000 per person | Padar at sunrise, timing set by the captain |
| Private charter on Gandiva | 1/2/3 | IDR 80,000,000 per boat | Padar at sunrise, timing set by the captain |
| Dive liveaboard (not us) | 3–7 | — | yes |
A couple's bill, once as seats and once as a charter share
For two of you, the anniversary sum works out like this. As seats, it is 2 x IDR 11,500,000 (≈ USD 706) for Arjuna on a Monday or Friday sailing. As a charter, it is IDR 100,000,000 (≈ USD 6,135) for the boat, which is IDR 50,000,000 (≈ USD 3,067) each if only the two of you sail.
The seats cost far less and include the guide and the documentation. The charter bill buys privacy and the freedom to choose the date. If the date is fixed to your anniversary and no Monday or Friday falls near it, the charter is the only way to sleep on the boat that night.
Change the party size and the sum changes with it. Two couples pay less on the open trip than they would on the boat. Three couples pay less again. At the top of the charter band the picture turns, and we show that in the section on taking every cabin.
Add the park ticket to either bill. It is a separate line on both, quoted as the park package for your trip type.

Who owns the itinerary: you, the captain, or a stranger's wish
On a charter you own the calendar. You choose the length, two, three or four days, the start date and, within reason, the boarding time. We set boarding and finishing around your flights. The route is Gandiva's route, and the captain still decides the sequence of stops by wind, tide and park rules.
On the open trip the route is fixed at three days, and the timetable has to suit every cabin. If one party wants longer on the beach, everyone else's day comes into it. We do not know who the other guests are, and we cannot tell you in advance what they will want. The lounge screen and the karaoke run only when the guests aboard want them.
The captain owns the weather decisions in both cases. If the current at Manta Point is wrong, or the water at Taka Makassar too high, the stop is moved or skipped, and your product does not change that.
Charter if you want to decide when the day starts. Take a seat if you're happy to follow a good plan.
When a single cabin is the better booking
A single cabin is the better buy for a couple, since the seats cost less than half the boat; for a date that already lands on a Monday or Friday; for anyone who wants the guide and the documentation in the fare; and for a budget that stretches to Bima at IDR 9,000,000 (≈ USD 552) per person but not to a charter.
Arjuna is the cabin for an anniversary, at IDR 11,500,000 (≈ USD 706) per person. If it is taken, Nakula and Sadewa are matching sea-view doubles at IDR 10,000,000 (≈ USD 613) each, without the balcony and the bath. Bima and Yudhistira sit on the lower deck with portholes.
There is a catch on the other side. On an open trip other guests are on deck, at the table and in the lounge. They won't be in your cabin or your bathroom, but they will be in your pictures.
The table lists every cabin, with its fare. A cabin sells to two, so a lone traveller pays for two.
| Cabins | Deck | per person |
|---|---|---|
| Arjuna Cabin | Upper deck | IDR 11,500,000 (≈ USD 706) |
| Nakula Cabin | Upper deck | IDR 10,000,000 (≈ USD 613) |
| Sadewa Cabin | Upper deck | IDR 10,000,000 (≈ USD 613) |
| Bima Cabin | Lower deck | IDR 9,000,000 (≈ USD 552) |
| Yudhistira Cabin | Lower deck | IDR 9,000,000 (≈ USD 552) |

Open trips sail on Mondays and Fridays. Some of those dates go to private charters, so the calendar shows only what is open. Next departures: 6 November 2026, 9 November 2026, 13 November 2026, 16 November 2026

Taking every cabin of an open trip yourselves
A group can book all five cabins of an open sailing, and it then has the boat to itself on a regular sailing day. The arrangement keeps the open-trip product, with its guide and documentation, and fills it with your own guests.
The sums show when it pays. Eight guests in Arjuna, Nakula, Sadewa and Bima pay less in seats than the five-to-eight band of IDR 105,000,000 (≈ USD 6,442). Ten guests, with two in Yudhistira, pay less than the nine-to-twelve band of IDR 110,000,000 (≈ USD 6,748). Twelve guests, with Yudhistira at four, pay a little more than that band in seats, because the third and fourth guests there pay IDR 6,500,000 (≈ USD 399) each.
So at twelve the charter is the smaller bill, though only by a little, and it comes without a guide and without documentation. The open trip fills the same cabins and keeps both.
Tell us your head count and your Monday or Friday, and we write both bills for you. No guesswork, and no rounding of the difference.
Lines that read the same on both bills
Several lines don't change whichever you pick. Both bills pay for the harbour transfer, the crew and cruise director, daily meals, free-flow coffee, tea and water, snacks, some fruit, towels, life jackets, snorkelling gear and local Wi-Fi. Both leave out flights, hotels, the park ticket, the drone fee, alcoholic drinks, tips and insurance.
Both are paid in the same two steps. A deposit of 50 percent comes first; the remainder falls due 30 days out, or at the card terminal or in cash on departure day. On the payment side, a card link costs 3 percent extra, PayPal 7.2 percent and the terminal 3 percent.
Both come with a replacement-boat guarantee. Should Gandiva fail to sail on your date, you get another boat of the same class or better at no added cost, or the money is returned to you in full within 2 days (2×24 hours) once the conditions are met.
Just two lines differ: the guide and the documentation, which the open-trip fare includes and the charter does not. The table sets out the rest, line by line.

FAQ
How many guests will be on my open trip?
Ask us and we tell you how many cabins are booked on your date. The number moves until departure, so we cannot promise the final count. We do not hold ages or travel styles. The open trip is a leisure sailing of snorkelling, walks and sunsets.
What if Gandiva is replaced on my date?
You get another boat of the same class or better, at no added cost. If you prefer, the money comes back to you in full within 2 days (2×24 hours) once the conditions are met. We write the offer to you before anything changes, and you decide.
What does each bill include and leave out?
Both cover the transfer, crew, meals, drinks without alcohol, cabins, towels, life jackets and snorkelling gear. Both leave out park tickets, flights, hotels, alcoholic drinks and tips. Only the open-trip fare includes the guide and the photo documentation.
Is the guide included if I charter the whole boat?
No. A private charter comes without a guide and without photo and video documentation. You can ask for either, and each is priced in a separate written quote. The open-trip fare includes them.
Can we take all the cabins on a Monday sailing?
Yes. A group can take every cabin of an open sailing and keep the guide and documentation in the fare. For twelve guests the charter is a little cheaper, but without the guide. Send us the head count and we write both bills.
